Phage Detection

As natural enemies of bacteria, phages have evolved to bind to their hosts with unparalleled specificity, and can quickly transmit and replicate their viral genomes. Fast and reliable detection of clinical samples, bacterial pathogen products in contaminated food, and water supply can significantly improve clinical outcomes and reduce the impact of socioeconomic diseases. But bacteriophages are the enemy of microbiological laboratories and bacterial industrial fermentation plants. In particular, mild bacteriophages will quietly infect the host bacteria, waiting for opportunities. In microbiology laboratories, strains contaminated with mild phages often appear new physiological and biochemical phenotypes, which affect the conclusions of experiments. In bacterial fermentation, the bacteria at the bottom plate used also face the problem of phage contamination. For example, when using beneficial bacteria to produce antibiotics, alcohol, acetic acid, acetone, and other products, if the beneficial bacteria contaminate the phage, the fermentation will fail, causing huge economic losses. Understanding the characteristics of bacteriophages, rapid detection, separation, and determination of titer play an important role in preventing bacteriophage contamination in production and scientific research.

Our Services

Phage is a type of virus that parasitizes microbial cells. We have processed many phage samples from soil, compost, feces, decaying organic matter, sewage, etc. Our services are listed as follows, but are not limited to:

Phage Detection

Detection of phages from ocean water

When you send us samples for phage detection, you can ensure that they are handled properly. Our state-of-the-art laboratory provides all necessary equipment, including transmission electron microscopes. We provide comprehensive phage detection services for all types of samples collected from ocean water.

Phage Detection

Detection of phages from the environment

Phages tend to persist in the environment and are moderately resistant to natural and man-made stressors. Each sample is tested against a series of bacterial strains optimized for your sample. We provide comprehensive phage detection services for all types of samples collected from the environment.

Sample Required

The test sample can be fermentation broth, air, sewage, soil, etc. (As for the objects that cannot be sampled and need to be inspected, the surface can be wiped with cotton soaked in sterile water as the inspection sample). In order to facilitate separation, it can be proliferated and cultured first to increase the number of phages in the sample.
