Phage DNA Analysis

Bacteriophages have attracted much attention because of their ability to specifically attack bacteria. Bacteriophages are approved for use in the food industry to control foodborne pathogens. In addition, animal and human clinical trials have shown that bacteriophages can be effectively used as an alternative to antibiotics, including the treatment of infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. However, in order to ensure the safety of the phage, that is, the phage does not contain putative virulence factors or antibiotic resistance genes that may be transferred to the bacteria, a whole-genome analysis is required. In this analysis process, researchers need to extract phage DNA, perform genetic analysis, and perform DNA characterization. Traditional extraction methods include phage precipitation, ultracentrifugation, and the use of solutions such as chloroform and phenol. On the basis of traditional methods, we also provide a fast-spinning column method to extract phage DNA, followed by DNA sequencing and DNA characterization.
